Our onsite staff is trained in Wilderness First Aid and is very comfortable in an Outdoor Environment. We have first aid kits and AEDs on site. For health and hygiene, the campsite is equipped with handwashing stations featuring foot-pump running water, as well as hand sanitizer near the outhouses. Our garbage is all kept in bear proof locations and we actively practice Leave No Trace Principles.
Yes, the off-grid cabins and glamping setups are explicitly designed to be perfect for families and first-time campers seeking a simple outdoor experience. The property features a dedicated Family Cabin that sleeps up to six people, offering a double bed on the main floor and a loft with two additional double beds. Other options, like the Riverview Geodome, can comfortably sleep up to four people using a double bed and a trundle bed.
Because we operate as a rustic, off-grid basecamp, there is no running water, power, or modern indoor plumbing. Instead of traditional bathrooms and showers, guests use three outhouses that are stocked with hand sanitizer and outdoor hand washing stations. There is also a shared common outdoor wash station with foot-pump running water specifically designated for handwashing and brushing teeth.
Yes, it is actually a requirement! We are not close to any grocery stores or amenities. Cooking facilities are readily available for all guests. We provide an outdoor kitchen and a communal indoor cookhouse that includes an indoor firepit, large picnic tables, BBQ access, and dishes. If you prefer a more secluded setup, booking the Riverview Cabin or the Riverview Geodome provides you with a private cooking area and personal cooking equipment.
Although the company's era of guided whitewater rafting is coming to a close, experienced independent paddlers are still welcome to use the site as a basecamp to explore the Upper Red Deer River. During your stay, you can enjoy exploring local hiking trails, fishing along the river, and stargazing. For guided outdoor adventures, you can book biologist-led river fishing lessons or guided forest walks, or reach out to HVA staff to set you up with an adventure with one of our local partners - trail riding and white water rafting are two very popular options.
